Get to know the Coordinator of Peace Science Collaboration
Dr. Martin B. Kalinowski is an independent nuclear science expert who provides specialized services to national laboratories and international organizations, including the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the Provisional Technical Secretariat of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO). He is mentor and coach for scientists supporting them in developing their careers.
During his tenure at the CTBTO, Dr. Kalinowski held several leadership roles, including Head of the Scientific Methods Unit and Chief of Capacity Building and Training.
From 2006 to 2012, he served as a full professor and Director of the Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker Center for Science and Peace Research at the University of Hamburg, Germany. Prior to that, in 2005, he was Assistant Professor for Technology and International Security in the Department of Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, USA.
Dr. Kalinowski earned his PhD in nuclear science with a dissertation on nuclear safeguards while working with the Interdisciplinary Research Group on Science, Technology, and Security (IANUS) at Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany.
